Unless you're doing something really thick like nut butter, you should rarely ever need to put the FnF in the dishwasher or clean by hand. Load it with water and a drop of soap, and let it spin for 60 seconds. The auto-clean on this thing is incredible. A lot of blenders are awkwardly designed, or have internal ridges that make them a pain in the ass to clean. The jar sits deep on the base, and thankfully doesn't bother with an annoying "locking" function. I could fling the jar across the room and the lid would not come off. It's a compact unit that holds more than you expect, has a cord-wrap on the underside, and a tight-fitting lid with a helpful pull-ring.
Both are great, and Breville wisely doesn't overwhelm the user with a million different functions.
"Green Smoothie" operates at a continuous high speed, and "Smoothie" alternates between variable speeds and pulses. The automatic settings are really well designed. I haven't tried any super thick recipes like almond butter or hummus yet, but ATK says it does well at those functions. Realistically, I don't think there's any task I could ask it to do that it couldn't perform to a good level. It also perfectly emulsifies oil-based salad dressings (we have some leftover dressing in the fridge and it hasn't split even after a few days). It's not 100% completely buttery smooth, but for the price it does an astounding job and I suspect is more than adequate for the average user. Greens, oats, or frozen fruit are all incorporated with minimal "grit" left over. The ice crusher function works well - ATK described it as "fluffy" ice, and that is a great way to describe it. Whereas our old Ninja would leave visible chunks of leafy greens in our smoothies (even soft greens like spinach), the FnF does a 9/10 job even with tough, raw kale.
